How Outdoor Ember collects, uses, and protects information.

Last updated: July 27, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Outdoor Ember (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you visit outdoorember.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we reasonably can to run the site.

Information we collect

Information you provide

If you contact us by email, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and the contents of your message. We use this information only to respond to you and to act on what you have told us, such as correcting an error in a guide.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we collect certain technical information automatically when you browse: your approximate location derived from your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, how long you stay, and the site that referred you. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies, primarily via Google Analytics, and reaches us only in aggregated form.

How we use information

  • To respond to messages you send us.
  • To understand which guides are useful, so we can improve and prioritize our content.
  • To keep the site secure and functioning correctly.
  • To attribute affiliate referrals, as described in our Affiliate Disclosure.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for unsolicited marketing.

Cookies

Outdoor Ember uses cookies for analytics, affiliate-link attribution, and basic site functionality. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. For a full description of the cookies in use and how to manage them, see our Cookie Policy.

Third-party services

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to measure site traffic and reading patterns. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy, and the reports we see are aggregated — we cannot identify individual visitors from them.

Amazon Associates. Outdoor Ember participates in the Amazon Associates program. When you click an Amazon link on this site, Amazon sets cookies to attribute qualifying purchases to us. Amazon’s handling of your data is governed by Amazon’s own privacy notice.

We may share technical information with service providers who host or secure the site, strictly for those purposes, and we may disclose information where the law requires it.

Data retention and security

Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle the matter it concerns, then deleted in routine cleanups. Aggregated analytics data is retained under the default retention settings of Google Analytics. We use reasonable technical measures — including HTTPS encryption — to protect the site and any information passing through it, though no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — including under laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act — you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@outdoorember.com and we will respond within the timeframe the applicable law requires.

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision, and continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@outdoorember.com.
